Elements are substances that can not be broken down into simpler substance by any physical or chemical process Composed of atoms Homogeneous compounds are composed of 2 or more elements in definite ratio made up of atoms and molecules

an element is a pure substance made up of one kind of atoms only. the atoms constitute the smallest particle of an element. elements cannot be converted or broken down int two or more simpler substances.
a compound is a pure substance made up of two or more elements[atoms] combined chemically in a fixed proportion. a compound cannot be broken down into two or more simpler substances by phsical method but by chemical methods only.
