FUNCTIONS OF ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM
•Rough ER synthesizer protein
• RER involved in post -translation modifications such as glycation
• SER synthesizes phospholipids, cholesterol (in many
tissue) & steriod hormones (adrenals, gonads)
• SER is site of glycogen metabolism
• Stores & releases calcium ions in the cells . (that trigger contraction in muscle cells.)
• In liver & kidneys SER detoxifies drugs and Harmful substances:
• Removes the phosphate group from G-6-P; and release free glucose in blood.
