Energy :-

The capacity to do work is called Energy

  • Energy are different forms like
  • Gravitational potential energy

  • Kinetic energy
  • Potential energy
  • Mechanical energy
  • Elastic potential enrgy
  • Electric potential energy

Lets discuss one by one with formula !

☆Potential energy

The energy possessed by body by virtue of its position or configuration is known as potential energy

Note :-

Potential energy is defined for conservative forces only

☆ Gravitational potential energy:-

The Gravitational potential energy of two particles of masses m1 ,m2 separated by a distance r is given by

U = \sf\dfrac{-Gm1m2}{r}

  • Negative sign indicates the force is attractive in nature
  • Work done against by Gravitational force is mgh
  • Work done by Gravitational force is mgh

☆Kinetic energy :-

The enrgy possessed by a body of virtue of its motion is known as Kinetic energy

K.E = \sf\dfrac{1}{2}mv²

  • K.E is always positive
  • K.E doesn't depends on direction of motion
  • Kinetic energy depends om frame of reference

☆Mechanical energy :-

The Mechanical energy of a system is the sum of potential energy & kinetic energy

E = K + U

E is Mechanical energy

K is Kinetic energy

U is potential energy

  • A body can have Mechanical energy without either K.E or P.E

☆ Elastic potential energy :-

When a spring is streched or compressed by an amoynt x from its unstreched position the Elastic potential enrgy is stored

U = \sf\dfrac{1}{2}kx²

  • Where k is called spring constant its unit is N/m
  • Elastic potential energy is always positive
  • At natural state of spring the elastic potential energy is 0

☆Electric potential energy

The Electric potential energy of two point charges q1, q2 separated by distance r in vaccum is given by

  • Electric potential energy depends upon medium between charges
