Answer:
- The epidermis is the outer and the thinner part of the skin.
- It is formed of stratified epithelium.
- It is joined layer after layer.
- In some places, the epidermis is thick and hard such as on the Palms, soles and on the heels.
- It has three sublayers depthwise
- Outermost cornified layer
- Middle granular layer
- Inner malpighian layer.
- The outermost to cornified layer is composed of flattened dead cells performing protective function.
- These cells are made up of a fibrous structural protein called Keratin which are found in our nails, hairs.
- The middle granular layer is a very thin middle layer which consists of two or three flattened calls which gives the way to the outermost cornified layer.
- The malpighian layer is the innermost layer and region of the epidermis.
- It is also called as germinative layer.
- Its cells actively divide and produce new cells.
