Answer:

  • The epidermis is the outer and the thinner part of the skin.

  • It is formed of stratified epithelium.

  • It is joined layer after layer.

  • In some places, the epidermis is thick and hard such as on the Palms, soles and on the heels.

  • It has three sublayers depthwise

  1. Outermost cornified layer
  2. Middle granular layer
  3. Inner malpighian layer.

  • The outermost to cornified layer is composed of flattened dead cells performing protective function.

  • These cells are made up of a fibrous structural protein called Keratin which are found in our nails, hairs.

  • The middle granular layer is a very thin middle layer which consists of two or three flattened calls which gives the way to the outermost cornified layer.

  • The malpighian layer is the innermost layer and region of the epidermis.

  • It is also called as germinative layer.

  • Its cells actively divide and produce new cells.
