Esterification is basically the common name for a chemical reaction in which two reactants form an ester as the product. This process is basically used in organic chemistry. Its characteristics include a pleasant sort of a fruity odour.

Esterification Reaction: When an alcohol ( mostly primary) alcohol is treated with carboxylic acid in the presence of H2 SO4 sweet smelling compound is formed which is called ester. The reaction is know as esterification reaction. Here R and R' are alkyl groups and/or H (hydrogen).
