Eutrophication, the gradual increase in the concentration of phosphorus, nitrogen, and other plant nutrients in an aging aquatic ecosystem such as a lake. The productivity or fertility of such an ecosystem naturally increases as the amount of organic material that can be broken down into nutrients increases.

Eutrophication :

The word eutrophication comes from the Greek word 'atrophy' which means filling a reservoir with organic matter.

Soap water, nitrates used in agricultural land, phosphate etc. mixed with water in lakes, reservoirs, Algae grow in large numbers in the pond water. As a result, they die due to lack of oxygen and rot and accumulate at the bottom of the reservoir to fill the reservoir. This process is eutrophication.
