Electronic Voting Machine (also known as EVM ) is voting using electronic means to either aid or take care of the chores of casting and counting votes.

→Nowadays EVM's are considered as a malfunctioned system because

*The election website and "The Wire" website had to quarrel about the election results and this went to a controversy

*An computer expert said that he could hack the EVM and he also said that he successfully hacked an EVM prototype. However, this has been rejected by Election Commission of India

*EVMs does not meet the legal requirements set out in the Information Technology Act, 2000

→HOW TO USE E.V.M

An EVM machine demands basic knowledge of identifying the desired political party’s symbol and the local candidate representing it.

Unlike the voting process of yesteryear, an EVM doesn’t require a ballot box, but rather offers an option to simply press a button.

An EVM has two units, a Control Unit and a Balloting Unit.

While the Control Unit remains with the Presiding Officer or a Polling Officer, the Balloting Unit is placed inside the voting compartment.

The Polling Officer in-charge of the Control Unit presses the ‘Ballot’ Button provided on the Control unit for releasing the Ballot for the voter.

It enables the voter to cast his vote by pressing the ‘Candidate’ button (blue button) on the Balloting Unit against the candidate and symbol of his choice.
