Fajans' rules, formulated by Kazimierz Fajans in 1923, are used to predict whether a chemical bond will be covalent or ionic, and depend on the charge on the cation and the relative sizes of the cation and anion.

Fajan's rule
As increasing the size of cations, they are more ionic in nature.
●Example 1
Anios having small size are formed easily and hence more ionic in nature.
●Example 2
(Cations and Anions having low charge are more readily formed = ionic in nature)
●Example 3
Cation's having Octet configuration are more ionic in nature when compared to cations having pseudo octet configuration.
Ex : Ca+2 having octet configuration is more ionic in nature.
But Zn+2 having pseudo octet configuration is less ionic in nature.
