Ans:

1) FLUX:-

#Defination- A substance which is used to remove impurities and purify metals during various process like moulding,soldering,smelting etc called flux.

# Flux has several different meanings,but in Metallurgy {-->branch material chemistry where metals are purified from their rocky states},Flux is simply the 'Purifying agent'.

#Many materials are can be used as flux .

Ex-a)Rosin is used as flux for soldering.

     b)Carbonate and silicate materials are used as welding flux during process of welding.

#In short they just remove impurities.Basic flux removes acidic impurities,acidic flux removes basic impurities.

2)SLAG:-

#It is the separated or remained impurities after the process of smelting or purifying of metals.

#Calcium silicate is the slag formed in the Limestone furance .

Initially calcium carbonate gives Calcium oxide which is basic in nature. That further reacts with impurity silica to form slag.

The reactions are as follow:

1] CaCO3 --------->       CaO    +                CO2      ----------(1)

   Calcium                 Calcium Oxide

  carbonate

2] CaO       + SiO2  ------------->  CaSiO3    ---------(2)

                     Silica                     'Slag'
