FOCAL LENGTH- the distance between the centre of a lens or curved mirror and its focus.
A concave lens diverges the Ray's incident on it.So the image will be formed behind the lens... you can easily verify that the focal length is the positive direction for a convex lens while it is along the negative direction for a concave lens.So it is positive for convex lens and negative for concave lens.
