Define foetus. After how many weeks of development, a human embryo is said to become a foetus ?

  • An unborn mammal is called as fetus.
  • In human beings, an unborn human after eight weeks of conception is called fetus.

Development of a human embryo:

  • The male gamete and female gamete undergoes fertilisation in female body and forms zygote.
  • The zygote divided into embryo. The embryo is moved to uterus through oviduct. In uterus, the embryo is embedded in uterine lining. This process is called as implantation.
  • The embryo starts to grow into baby through food and oxygen from uterine lining.
  • After eight weeks, embryo grows into fetus. It has heart.
  • Later, the fetus develops ear, nose, finger and eyes.
  • After 38 weeks, complete development of baby takes place and the mother gives birth to the baby through vagina.
