Answer:

Food web is a network of food chains where all the chains are naturally interconnected. Flow of energy in a food chain is unidirectional, once it reaches the next tropic level it does not come back again. For example- energy which passes to the herbivores does not come back again to autotrophs. An ecosystem usually has two different types of food webs: a grazing food web based on photosynthetic plants or algae, along with a detrital food web based on decomposers (such as fungi). For example, a short food chain may consist of plants that use the sun's energy to produce their own food through photosynthesis along with the herbivore that consumes these plants. This herbivore may be eaten by two different carnivores which are a part of this food chain.

QUESTION :-

Define food web

ANSWER :-

A food chain is a linear network of links in a food web starting from producer organisms and ending at apex predator species, detritivores, or decomposer species. A food chain also shows how organisms are related to each other by the food they eat. Each level of a food chain represents a different trophic level.

EXAMPLES :-

For example, a short food chain may consist of plants that use the sun's energy to produce their own food through photosynthesis along with the herbivore that consumes these plants. This herbivore may be eaten by two different carnivores which are a part of this food chain.
