Define force. Is it necessary for the two bodies to be in direct contact for a
force to exist between them? Explain with examples.

No direct contact is not always necessary for applying force .

Force is a physical quantity that tends to cause a motion in an object at rest or change the direction of of motion of a moving object

No it's not necessary for 2 bodies to be in direct contact in order to exert a force on each other because if two bodies are charged then they can attract or repel each other within their magnetic field without making a direct contact

Example : Like poles of a magnet repel and unlike poles of a magnet attract each other without making a direct contact
