A Force is an external agent or cause which change or try to change the position of a body either in motion or rest is called force.

No, it is not necessary that two bodies to be in direct contact for a force to be exist between them such type of forces is called non - contact force.

Non contact force may act when they are in not contact with each other.

Take an example of Gravitational force and magnetic force .

We know that gravitational force is acting between earth, moon and sun but they are seprated by a huge distance then how gravitational force act, that means force may act also without direct contact between two bodies.

We also know that a magnet attract an iron pieces from a distance there is no need to be in direct contact.

You can take also small examples like :-

Force acting between moon and earth.

Force acting between electron and proton.

Force acting between two magnets.

hence, magnetic, gravitational, and electrical forces are non - contact forces.
