fossils are the dead and decaying remains of animals and plants that lived many years ago.they are found in traces in many sites.
they are decomposed and some parts of them wont decompose totally and get trapped in natures traps and stay preserved.
example:if an insect is dead and gets stuck in hotmud, it wont totally decompose and some parts remain preserved.
hope it helps!!!!!
