:-) , As we all know that the best way of analysing anything is by visualising it from surrounding rather than , just learning it from book.....☺☺
So we have, Let's assume that ⤵⤵⤵⤵⤵☺
, You are pushing a box , it doesn't move, than you will must think, Oh there may be some another opposite force which is opposing me.Okay, after sometimes, by pushing and pushing it, suddenly it moves., and you won the battle☺.
:-) , Here , what's exactly I wanna explain that Friction is that force which is opposing your force........☺
And we also come to know , what affects friction , .....⤵⤵
Frictional force actually reduces the relative motion of a body.
Various factors which affect friction are:
Smoothness of surface:-more the surface is smooth, less is the friction.
Normal force: This is also the most important factor responsible for friction.Normal force itself depends on weight of the body. More the weight of the body, more is the friction.
☺☺So the best to learn anything by visualising it.☺☺

Answer:
Friction depends partly on the smoothness of the contacting surfaces, a greater force being needed to move two surfaces past one another if they are rough than if they are smooth.
