Definition of funicle:

Every ovule is connected to the placenta by a slim stalk called funicle. The place of connection of the body of the ovule to its funicle is called Hilum.

The reversed ovule, the piece of funicle stay joined past the Hilum nearby of the body of the ovule shaping a kind of edge called raphe. This structure helps in strong bonding or attachment of the ovule with placenta.
