According to World bank, the estimation of global poverty scenario is as follows:

The poverty levels have been declined from 52% in 1981 to 26% in 2005. The other face of this picture is that the number of poor people in the world was 1.4 billion in 2005 which was higher than earlier estimates of 1993.
