scenario is as follows:
The poverty levels have been declined from 52% in 1981 to 26% in 2005. The other face of this picture is that the number of poor people in the world was 1.4 billion in 2005 which was higher than earlier estimates of 1993.

Global Poverty Scenario. The proportion of people in developing countries living in extreme economicpoverty— defined by the World Bank as living on less than $1 per day—has fallen from 28 per cent in 1990 to 21 per cent in 2001.
