the breakdown of food is done by two major steps:
1.kreb's cycle
2.glycolsis

in glycolsis the glucose is converted into pyruvate. it occurs in cytoplasm. kreb's cycle converts pyruvate into energy, water etc it occurs in mitochondria

Glycolysis is the most significant metabolic pathway (under anaerobic condition) which breaks down single glucose molecule to two pyruvic acid molecules which is otherwise called as pyruvate.

Explanation:

  • It is the multi-step pathway takes place in cytoplasm of the living cells.
  • The process breaks the 6 carbon molecule in to two pyruvate molecules (3 carbon molecule) with the help of several enzymes, finally release energy in the form of ATP.
  • Glycolysis originated from a greek word called glykys (sweet),  lysis or breakdown or dissolution of sweet (glykys).
  • Also, it serves as the source of originators for aerobic catabolism and for several bio synthetic processes.
