Golgi bodies:-

Small flat sac like structure, formed by membranes in the cytoplasm of the cell.

Function:-

Modifies proteins and lipids which it gets from endoplasmic reticulum .

  • It also known as the Golgi apparatus.
  • first stained by Camillo golgi (1898).
  • they consist of many flat, disc shaped sacs or cisternae .
  • these cisternae are stalk parallel to each other.
  • varied number of cisternae is present in golgi complex.
  • it principally performs the function of packaging material.
  • it also help in delivery of these materials either to the intra cellular targets or secreted outside the cell .
  • It is the important site of formation of Glycoproteins and Glycolipids .
