DEFINITION:

1) It is the term given to the introduction of high-yielding varieties of seeds, the increased use of fertiliser and irrigation which provides the increase in production

2) It is brought to India by the initiative of the Indian government

3) It is introduced to the farmers to cultivation of wheat and rice using (HYV's) high-yielding varieties of seeds.

4) HYV seeds need plenty of water, chemical fertiliser and pesticides to produce best products

5) Higher yield is possible only from the combination of HYV seeds, irrigation, chemical fertiliser and pesticides.

ADVANTAGES OF GREEN REVOLUTION:

1) Higher yield

2) Surplus food is sold and increases the income

DISADVANTAGES OF GREEN REVOLUTION:

1) Degradation of soil

2) Depreciation in water table level
