Greenwich near London is situated at 0° longitude providing the basic for calculating the Standard Time since 1884. This time at the Greenwich is selected as the mean time. If it is 12 noon at Greenwich, at 15°E longitude, the time will be 1pm and at 30°E longitude, the time will be 2pm. The time fixed with reference to Greenwich is called the Greenwich Mean Time.
