Define growth. Why growth cannot be taken as defining property of all living organisms ?

a defining property should be such that it must be possed by all living organisms but not by non living things

but non living things such as sand bank shows extrinsic growth . therefore it is a not a defining property

Growth means increase in population and increase in size ( arithmetic growth and geometric growth )
Nonliving things also exhibit growth !!
