Hardy-Schulze rule states that oppositely charged ion is responsible for coagulation of colloidal solution. It explains that greater the number of positive charge on ions, greater will be the coagulating power and smaller will be the flocculation value for the coagulation of negatively charged solution.

Similarly, greater the number of charge on negative ion, greater will be the coagulating power and smaller will be the flocculation value for the positively charged solution.
