 \bold{ \underline{ HOMOLOGOUS  \: SERIES :-}}

➡A series of organic compounds in which the same functional group substitute for hydrogen in a carbon Chain is called homologous series.

➡CHARACTERISTICS OF HOMOLOGOUS SERIES :-

❇All the members of homologous series have same functional group.

❇All the members of homologous series have same general formula.

❇The change in properties of homologous series is because of Change in size of a alkyle group.

❇Each successive member in homologous series differ by molecular formula ( CH2).

❇Any two successive member differ by molecular mass 14u.

❇ Physical properties like melting point, boiling point, solubility in particular solvent also show gradation in homologous series . These are determine by Carbon Chain end.

❇ Chemical properties are determine by functional group.
