Answer:

NUTRITION IN AMOEBA:

Nutrition in Amoeba occurs through a process called phagocytosis where entire organism pretty much engulf the food it plans on eating up . The mode of nutrition in amoeba is known as Holozoic Nutrition . It involves Ingestion, Digestion and Egestion of food material.

HOLOZOIC NUTRITION IN AMOEBA TAKES PLACE IN FOLLOWING STEPS:

  1. INGESTION
  2. DIGESTION
  3. ABSORPTION
  4. ASSIMILATION
  5. EGESTION

Explanation:

  • INGESTION : It is the process of taking in food into the entire body by swallowing or absorbing it . Amoeba pushes out the pseudopodia to encircle the food and engulfs it forming a food vacuole.
  • DIGESTION : It is the process of breaking the insoluble and large food molecules and minute molecule. In amoeba , the vacuoles are transported deeper into the cell and with help of digestive enzymes , the large insoluble particles are broken down into simpler molecules.
  • ABSORPTION : In this process, nutrients from digested food materials are absorbed into the cells cytoplasm by leaving behind the undigested particles. This process is known as diffusion. The excess food is stored in form of glycogen and lipids.
  • ASSIMILATION : It is the process of obtaining energy from the absorbed food molecules. In amoeba, absorbed molecules are utilized for producing the energy required to carry out life processes within the cell.
  • EGESTION : It is the process of undigested food materials. In amoeba, this process is carried out by rupturing the cell membrane to remove undigested food materials from its body.
