(i) Static friction

Static friction is a force that hinders the movement of an object moving along the path. When two fabrics slide over each other, this friction occurs. There's friction all around us. When we walk, for instance, our feet are in touch with the floor.

(ii) Sliding friction

We can define sliding friction as the resistance created by any two objects when sliding against each other. This friction is also known as kinetic friction and is defined as the force that is needed to keep a surface sliding along another surface.

(iii) Rolling friction

Rolling friction occurs when a wheel, ball, or cylinder rolls freely over a surface, as in ball and roller bearings. The main source of friction in rolling appears to be dissipation of energy involved in deformation of the objects.
