In any element , IE2 > IE1 , because after removal of the first electron, the rest valence electrons get attracted by the nucleus more strongly. Hence, a higher amount of energy is needed for removal of the second electron. Factors determining IE : Atomic radius. Nuclear strength (i.e. number of protons)
