after getting independence all the small kingdoms were amalgamated in the indian union. union is a federal structure in which the states were established on lingustic lines. for example allthe telugu speaking people were in andhra pradesh. all the tamilians were in tamilnadu. all malayalees are in kerala. but people are having the liberty to settle according to their choice and thy can freely move from one state to another. this is federal structure or union of various states. hence the central government is also called as union government and respective state governments will rule the states but under the control of union govt.or central govt. if the states may not comply the directions of the union govt. then the union govt will impose president rule under article 365 of the constitution. this is union government. yes still it is in use.
