Define inertia of rest
Answers
Answer :
Inertia of Rest :
It is the reluctance of a body to change its State of Rest.
In other words :
If a body remains at rest , it will remain at rest until an external force is applied to change its State of Rest .
Examples :
- When a corridor train starts , the sliding doors of some compartments may open.
- When a bus suddenly starts moving from rest , the passenger inside it fall backwards.
- When a smooth card placed over a glass is pulled sharply in the horizontal direction , the card flies away ,but the coin kept over it ,falls into the glass.
Additional information :
Introduction to Inertia :
Inertia : The tendency of a body to remain in it's State of Rest or uniform motion along a straight path.
Types of Inertia :
- Inertia of Rest
- Inertia of Motion
- Inertia of Direction
Relation between Mass and Inertia :
"The Greater the mass , the greater is the inertia of body".
Newton's First law of Motion :
"According to the Newton's First law of motion , If a body is in a state of rest , it will remain at the State of Rest and if it is in the sate if motion , it will remain moving in the sams direction and with same velocity unless an external force is applied on it ."

Inertia Of Rest :-
The inability of body to change its state of rest on its own is known as Inertia Of Rest.
Some examples :-
1) The dust particles start coming out of the carpet, when it is beaten with a stick.
2) We get a sudden stop in backward direction when suddenly a bus starts moving.
This is all because of Inertia Of Rest.
When Inertia Of Rest changes to Inertia of Motion, We try to remain at Rest.
That's why we get sudden stop.
Basically, Inertia is of 3 types :-
- Inertia Of Rest.
- Inertia Of Motion.
- Inertia Of Direction.
