Define inertia. On what factor does it depend? what are the different kinds of inertia? give one example of each.

Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to any change in its state of motion. This includes changes to the object's speed, direction, or state of rest.

Inertia is also defined as the tendency of objects to keep moving in a straight line at a constant velocity. The principle of inertia is one of the fundamental principles in classical physics that are still used to describe the motion of objects and how they are affected by the applied forces on them.

Moment of inertia depends upon

(i) Distribution of mass of the body about the axis of the rotation.

(ii) Shape and size of the body.

(iii) Position and orientation of the axis of rotation

INERTIA-If the body is in rest it wants to be in rest,if body is in motion it wants to be in motion until the external force is applied on it.

Inertia is directly proportional to the mass of the body or objects. if body have more mass than more inertia and if less mass than less inetia.

types of inertia

1. Inertia of motion
2. inertia of rest
3. Inertia of direction

1. Inertia of motion--if the bodies in motion it wants to be in motion until the external force is applied on it.

example-
One's body movement to the side when a car makes a sharp turn. Tightening of seat belts in a car when it stops quickly. A ball rolling down a hill will continue to roll unless friction or another force stops it.

2. Inertia of rest-- if the body is in rest it wants to be in this until the external forces applied on it.

example-One's body movement to the side when a car makes a sharp turn. Tightening of seat belts in a car when it stops quickly. A ball rolling down a hill will continue to roll unless friction or another force stops it.

3. Inertia of direction-- every object and body in this universe is wants to be in particular direction of its motion or rest until the external force is applied on it.

example-When an object is placed on top of a running bus and the bus takes sudden turn then the object placed on the top of the bus will thrown out in opposite in direction of turning bus. Examples of Inertia of Motion: ... This is due toinertia of motion.
