The process in which two light waves of same frequency combine and cancel effect of each other is called interference of light .

Their resulting wave will have amplitude equal to sum of amplitude of each wave that is interfering .

define interference of light?

when two light waves of exactly equal frequency having constant phase difference with respect to time travelled on same direction and superimpose(overlap) with each other, then intensity of resultant wave does not remain uniform in space.

this phemomenon of formation of maximum intensity at same points and minimum intensity at some other points by two identical light waves travelling in same direction is called interference of light.
