when an compound is formed by complete  transfer of electrons it is called as ionic bond

Ionic bond is formed due to complete transfer of electrons from one atom of an element to one atom of other element.

As in NaCl

Covalent bond is formed due to mutual sharing of electrons between the atoms.

As in NH3
