Ionic Crystals :-

When the lattice point in crystal are alternatively occupied by oppositely charged ions and held Together by electrostatic force then such crystals are so.

A Lattice point is the position in the unit cell or in a crystal where the probability of finding an atom or an ion is the highest. In other words, the atoms or ions occupy the lattice points in a crystalline solid. The lattice point may be found to be vacant in certain cases.

Example: Point defects.

proporties:-

➡️The ionic crystals are very hard and brittle .

➡️They have very high melting point and boiling point .

➡️They have high heat of vaporization .

Ionic crystals are crystalline structures. They consists of ions bound together by their electrostatic interactions. They are distinguished by strong absorption of infrared radiation, good ionic conductivity at high temperatures, and the existence of planes along which the crystals cleave easily.

Examples: sodium chloride crystal, potassium iodide crystal etc.
