the tendency to loose electron from the outermost shell by using energy. it depends on the size of atom of its big then less ionization energy is there and vice versa.

enthalpy means energy

and according to me /////

the required energy to release the last  e- from the outer most cell of an atom

Ie is inversely propotional to atomic size

/// if the size is large then Ie is less/// and if size is small Ie is more because small atom ' s nuclear power is large ///

and first Ie is always less than 2nd Ie
