What are Iqtas and Muqtis?

Qutbuddin Aibak , the founder of the slave or Mamluk dynasty, divided his empire into numerous big and small pieces of land, called Iqtas. These Iqtas were assigned to the nobles and officers in lieu of salary. The iqta holder is known as iqtadar or muqti.
