Isotopes :

Isotopes are the those species which have same atomic number whereas mass number are different, We can also say that Isotopes are those species which have same number of electrons but different number of neutrons.

Examples :

The most common examples of Isotopes are :

1) Hydrogen

  1. Protium (Mass 1u)
  2. Deuterium (Mass 2u)
  3. Tritium (Mass 3u)

2) Chlorine

  1. Chlorine 35 (mass 35)
  2. Chlorine 36 (mass 36)

Applications :

  • Radio Active isotopes are used in medicines.
  • Isotope of Cobalt is used in treatment of Cancer.
  • Isotope of Iodine is used in treatment of Goitre
