The kilogram-force, or kilopond, is a gravitational metric unit of force. It is equal to the magnitude of the force exerted by one kilogram of mass in a 9.80665 m/s² gravitational field

1N = 1Kgm/s^2

SI unit of force is newton.

I.e. when a mass of 1kg accelerates with speed of 1 m/s^2 then it is said that 1N force is applied
