They contain pigments,most popular one being the chlorophyll thus making them autotrophs. In addition to chlorophyll,they also contain fucoxanthin, carotenoids, xanthophylls etc

They are sedentary,meaning : fixed at a spot. Thus,their energy needs are comparatively less

They are further divided into four phyla: Algae,Bryopytha,Pteridophyta and Spermatophyta
