latent heat is the hidden heat which is required to change the fase from solid to liquid or from liquid to Vapour .latent heat for changing liquid to Vapour is called latent heat of vaporization .latent heat required to change solid to liquid is called latent heat of fusion .when we heat ice the temperature remains constant because the heat changes the face of ice to liquid . it does not changes the temperature .show the heat given by us to the ice do not increases its temperature it is called latent heat or hidden heat .

The heat which changes the state of matter without raising the temperature is known as latent heat.EG.The heat energy liberated when water freezes to form ice at 0 degree celsius.
The quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of unit mass of it through unit temperature is called specific latent heat.
EG.hot water bags used for formentation
