The period between 1000 BC - 600 BC is known as the Later Vedic period. It is also called the Epic Age because the two great epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata , were written during this time. The Ramayana and Mahabharata deal with social,. political and religious aspects of life. The Upanishads were also written towards end of this period (600BC).
