• There are many life processes which are continuously performed by different types of living organisms.

• But there are 6 life processes which are categorised as the "basic life processes'.

• The 6 basic life processes are -

1) Respiration : Necessary for the steady flow of oxygen in the body.

2) Reproduction : Necessary for the existence of a species through many generations.

3) Nutrition : Necessary for getting the body energy.

4) Excretion : Necessary for removal of the waste materials from the body.

5) Transportation : Necessary for responding to the external environment.

6) Metabolism : Necessary for internal biological activities.
