Life processes are the basic functions performed by living organisms to survive on earth. It has to be performed uninterruptedly in both active and inactive stage of organism. Some of the life processes are nutrition, respiration, transportation, excretion, control and coordination, growth etc.

Life processes are some essential biological activities, performed by almost every living organisms, in order to properly survive in their cycle of life.

• There are many life processes which are continuously performed by different types of living organisms.

• But,there are 6 life processes which are categorised as the "basic life processes".

• The 6 basic life processes are -

1) Respiration : Necessary for the steady flow of oxygen in the body.

2) Reproduction : Necessary for the existence of a species through many generations.

3) Nutrition : Necessary for getting the body energy.

4) Excretion : Necessary for removal of the waste materials from the body.

5) Transportation : Necessary for responding to the external environment.

6) Metabolism : Necessary for internal biological activities.
