A magnetic compass is an instrument which shows directions.it has a magnetic needle.it always points to the north, no matter how the dial is placed. Earlier, mariners used this compass as an essential tool to find the direction in the high seas.That is why it is called mariners compass.By looking at the deviation of the needle from the axis of the ship, the sailors could easily find out the direction in which the ship moved.It was invented by the Chinese in 12th century.....
