Magnetic susceptibility:

  • It is the measure of the ability of a substance to gets magnetises in an applied magnetic field.
  • This magnetic susceptibility measurement technique is used to determining the boundaries of the magnetic system as a definite variation in the magnetic properties in the phase of transition.
  • It is the 'ratio of Magnetisation of material' (M) to the applied magnetic field strength (H).
  • It is denoted by \chi _m.
  • The magnetic material is classified into diamagnetic, paramagnetic and ferromagnetic substances.
  • Diamagnetic Value of  \chi_m is less than 0.
  • Paramagnetic Value of \chi_m is in between 1 and 0.
  • Ferromagnetic Value of \chi_m  is very much greater than 1.
