Magnification of a lens

Magnification of the lens is defined as the ratio of height of the image to that of an object .

It is also defined as the ratio of image distance from the lens to the object distance from the lens.

Formula

\boxed{m \:  =  \frac{h_i}{h_o}  =    \frac{v}{u} }

where

h_i \:  = \:  height \: of \: image \\  \\ h_o \:  =  \: height \: of \: object \\  \\ v \:  =  \: image \: distance \\  \\  u \:  =  \: object \: distance
