Marketing :  

Marketing is concerned with identifying customers' needs developing the product, pricing , selling and providing after sales services to satisfy the customers. It focuses on maximum satisfaction of customers needs and wants.

 

Difference between marketing and selling :  

MARKETING :  

(i) Meaning : Activities involving creation of place time in position utilities.

(ii) Scope: Wider in scope.

(iii) Emphasis : Developing the product and other strategies according to the needs of the customers.

(iv) Production/ process : Begins before production and continues even after the sale has been affected.

(v) External/ Internal : Externally oriented.

(vi) Period : Emphasises long term goal such as growth and stability.

 

SELLING :  

(i) Meaning : Obtaining orders from customers and supplying them the products.

(ii) Scope: Narrow in scope.

(iii) Emphasis :  Bending the customer according to the Product .

(iv) Production/ process : Concerned with goods already produced..

(v) External/ Internal : Internally oriented.

(vi) Period : Emphasises short term profit maximization.
