Mass selection is a simplest , common and oldest method of crop improvement, in which large number of plants of similar phenotype are selected and their seeds are harvested and mixed together to constitute the new variety.

1) Mass Selection
In this context of development and improvement , mass selection is one of the oldest method practiced . ln this method , plants which contain similar phenotypic characters are selected in large quantities, and the seeds of the plants are harvested and mixed in order to create new variety. This method can done in two methods :- 1) Hallets method , 2) Rimpar method.
2) Pure Line Selection
During the Pure Line Selection process, a large quantity of self pollination crop plant are selected and harvested individually.The plants in Pure Line Selection consists of the same gynotype as the parent plant used for creation of the Pure Line .
