In electromagnetism, Maxwell's cork screw rule gives the direction of the magnetic field lines (B) produced due to a current carrying conductor (linear).

If a screw is held in the right hand with all the fingers and is turned to fit the screw in the hole, it advances into the hole in the object/wall.  The direction of advancement of the screw gives the direction of current flow.  The circular rotation direction and the way fingers rotate gives the direction of the magnetic field lines.

The field lines are circular concentric around the current wire.
