➡️ The process of formation of megaspore from megaspore mother cell (MMC) is called Megasporogenesis.

➡️ This four haploid megaspores are generally arranged in linear tetrad.

➡️ In a majority of flowering plants the lower most or chalazal megaspore remains functional out of four megaspores and the outer three which lie towards the micropyle degenerate.

➡️ The functional megaspore produce female gametophyte I.e. (embryo sac).

➡️ In most of angiosperms ( capsella), chalazal megaspore remains functional.
